TEMPLE ISRAEL YOUTH LEADERSHIP (TIYUL) Teachers

David ALPER

Moreh David is an artist, creator, builder, and inventor. He blends decades of precision glass flameworking with a variety of other mediums to create visually stunning, cultural statements, like the one in our school building entryway.

RABBI MICHAEL ALPER

Rabbi Michael is a lifelong Jewish learner who dabbles in comic collecting (amongst other hobbies) and loves to share his passions for history and the arts.

MARY COTTON

Morah Mary is an educator who also happens to be a homesteader, living in a former stop on the Underground Railroad while raising goats, chickens, and a couple of awesome kids.

MAIA ELKANA

Morah Maia's professional world at Wash U focuses on advocacy, increasing access to high-quality education, and generally propagating good in the world, and at TI, she brings a wealth of personal knowledge about Jewish history, culture, and wisdom. She also has been known to wear a unicorn onesie unironically.

Sarah Falkoff

Morah Sarah has been a chemistry teacher at Clayton High School for 20 years and is famous for letting her students set her on fire on the first day of school every year. Really. She is also TI’s only female Ba’alat Tekiah (shofar blower).

DIANE PACKMAN

Morah Diane has been teaching cooking at TI since her children were little (all three are now married!) and is an absolute highlight of every student’s education. She is also a Hebrew tutor and grandma to three very lucky grandbabies.

Elisa HeIligman Recht

Morah Elisa is a Jewish community leader and educator with extensive experience in Jewish youth programming, camping, and teaching. Elisa spearheads the educational programming of the Songleader Boot Camp National Conference and is the founder of Soul Sparkler Jewelry.

Rebekah Scallet

Morah Rebekah is a stage director, educator, and arts leader, and is the Artistic Director for the New Jewish Theater. She believes in a theater that is imaginative, interactive, and accessible for all.

Madison turner

Morah Madison is a budding entrepreneur, perpetual student, professional baker, and singer whose amazing voice the TI rabbis still remember from her Bat Mitzvah 13 years ago.

Evan Weiss

Moreh Evan’s day job is in the health care industry, but his background is in Middle East Affairs, with degrees from Wash U, Brown, and the London School of Economics. He also speaks Arabic and plays a mean shofar.
