Can you get more Jewish than a deli-style tuna sandwich with a side of tzedakah?

If you’re ever looking to find me outside of Temple Israel, the most likely spot is St. Louis Bread Co., (and yes, I am one of those people who will forever refuse to call it Panera). The reason is simple; I really enjoy — and have a borderline obsession with — tuna fish sandwiches. Though Protzel's Deli is probably my favorite deli-style tuna sandwich in the region, unfortunately, there is not one on every corner, so when I'm out and about visiting TI members or on my way back from work meetings, Bread Co. is my go-to lunch spot.

You may have read about TI's RaiseRight program, either here in the Dateline or through our other communications, where you can buy gift cards at face value at no extra cost to you and the Temple gets a kickback from the vendor. It's a really easy fundraising tool where you don't have to donate a single dime and TI gets free money. What you may not know is that you can sign up to get automatic monthly subscriptions to certain gift cards that you already use all the time. As you'd probably guess, I subscribed to receive Bread Co. every month. The gift cards just arrive in my mailbox regularly, so I always have one or two at the ready when I show up to buy lunch.

A little tzedakah for TI, lots of tuna sammies (and the occasional French onion soup) for me. Win, win.

If you like the idea (or need additional motivation) to shop for a cause, or if there are places you shop at regularly like grocery, clothing, or home goods stores, I would love to encourage you to get a subscription, too. It's just a commonsense way to do extra good, and as a nonprofit organization, we really appreciate the additional support.

And, next time I see you at Bread Co. — or Panera (eyeroll) — which in St. Louis is inevitable, I'd be happy to use my gift card subscription to buy you something delicious, too!

Thanks for always thinking of TI!
