Book of Remembrance

Throughout the world, Jews traditionally take time to remember their departed loved ones during the High Holy Days. At Temple Israel, we embrace this tradition by preparing our annual Book of Remembrance, a beautifully designed and professionally printed keepsake book provided to the congregation during Yom Kippur.

We offer two ways to include your loved one’s name in the Book of Remembrance.

  1. Establish a Perpetual Memorial:
    • Once you establish a Perpetual Memorial at Temple Israel, your loved one’s name will be included in the “In Perpetual Memorial” section of the Book of Remembrance each year without prompt. Perpetual Memorials begin at $500 per name.
If you’re interested in information on establishing a Perpetual Memorial, visit or contact Lisa Hirshberg at or 314-432-8050.
  2. Submit names for the Book of Remembrance “In Loving Memory”:
    • Each year, we invite our congregants to submit the names of their departed loved ones for inclusion in the that year’s edition. It is customary to honor their memories with tzedakah (a charitable donation), which is traditionally given in a multiple of $18, an amount symbolic of chai (life).
If you’re interested in submitting name(s) for the Book of Remembrance’s “In Loving Memory” section, fill out the form below or contact our office at or 314-432-8050.

May the memory of your loved ones be for a blessing.
