Volunteer leaders guide many of Temple Israel’s activities as members of our Board of Trustees and committee members.Temple Israel's committees lead the Temple’s activities and efforts in everything from social action to the Temple grounds, from education to religious practices, from personnel and leadership development to TI’s relationship with the land of Israel. For more information about our current committees visit our Committees page.

We value the participation and input of all of our members and actively encourage people who have not previously been involved in Temple governance to participate in short or long-term projects. We also encourage you to contact any member of our lay leadership to share your ideas and concerns, and we hope that you will become involved.

Congregation Temple Israel is governed by an elected Board of Trustees comprised of 10 officers and 36 trustees.  Trustees-at-large are elected for a three-year term at the annual meeting of the congregation. Board members may serve a maximum of two three-year terms. Officers are exempt from this rule. Each year one-third of the Trustees-at-large elected are new to the Board.

Leadership Development

Every two years the Leadership Development Committee invites members of the congregation with leadership potential to participate in a rigorous leadership development program. The program includes retreats, attendance at Board meetings, classes on synagogue operations, and special events with the Rabbis and professional staff. Since the inception of this program in 1977, virtually all Board members have had this preparation experience.

If you would like to be considered for inclusion in the next class, please contact the Temple at 314-432-8050 for more information.
