Deutsch Early Childhood Center
Temple Israel's preschool -- Deutsch Early Childhood Center -- builds relationships that foster each child’s social, emotional, intellectual and physical growth in a safe and nurturing Jewish community. DECC offers a variety of programs for parents and their children from age 6 months through Pre-Kindergarten.
Since 1985, Deutsch Early Childhood Center has been certified by the Missouri Board of Voluntary Accreditation for Early Childhood Education as a preschool adhering to the highest standards of early childhood education.
Our lead staff is composed of certified teachers and specialists with many years of experience. Our Project Construct curriculum promotes learning and development by engaging children in activities that inspire experimentation and stimulate students to recognize problems and create solutions. Emphasis is placed on developing positive self-esteem through a wide variety of hands on activities which encourage play, develop natural curiosity, and stimulate creative thinking. An atmosphere of empathy and acceptance of feelings is stressed, which promotes cooperation between the students themselves and encourages interactions with everyone.
Children will participate in art, music, cooking, Hebrew, Spanish, movement, and science and nature. We have a fabulous science room that promotes investigative learning, as well as a nature room with guinea pigs, lizards, bunnies, fish, and more.
Throughout each child's Jewish preschool education, they will celebrate Shabbat and Jewish holidays with the Rabbis and with their peers at in-school Tot Shabbat services and classroom celebrations. They will learn Jewish songs and prayers and help to make and taste traditional Jewish foods such as challah, hamentashen, their very own Passover Seder, and more. Active parental involvement and open communication between the school and home are encouraged.
All children ages 3 to 4 will be screened with the Dial 4 developmental screening. With this screening we will be able to focus on the skills that your child excels at as well as the ones that they need to work on as they approach kindergarten.
Children age 5 can be screened through JPAT, our Jewish Parents as Teachers program.
