Young couples search for a religious grounding that makes sense for their goals in life. How do we match our upbringing with the path we choose as young adults?
We found our answer at Temple Israel. I met Shari when I moved to St. Louis. She grew up in the congregation, so it felt natural to attend services with her. There is a real sense of community and fellowship, even though it's a large congregation. We were married at Temple Israel.
After we were asked to join the Leadership Development Program, we were given an in-depth tour of the Temple. We saw everything from the boiler room to the new construction. To me, it was symbolic of the spiritual and the structural needs of life. I thought, "This is our spiritual home."
Our involvement with the Leadership Development Program has been a great experience. We also participate in the FAO (For Adults Only) group, which sponsors fun social events like dinner at Rabbi Shook's house and group retreats, as well as community service projects. We meet new people, celebrate holidays and socialize with others who are in our same position in life.
The leadership at Temple Israel is truly inspirational. The staff does an extraordinary amount of work, out of love and concern for the congregation. We've always felt comfortable. Temple Israel is the natural place for us. |
