Worship at Temple Israel

Temple Israel considers itself to be in the mainstream of Reform Jewish worship practice. Given the size and great variety of worshipping constituencies within the congregation, a number of worship "styles" are offered.
  1. Formal - Most Friday evenings and Saturday mornings, our worship services use the new Temple Israel Siddur (Prayerbook).

  2. Tot Shabbat - This BYO Picnic Dinner and Service is held on the first Friday of the month at 6:00 p.m. either outside or in the muscle room. Families with young children are encouraged to bring a "picnic" dinner and then experience a Shabbat Service filled with laughter, stories and song, led by our educator and one of our rabbis.

  3. Family service SHABBAT B'SHIR (Shabbat in Song) - On the second Friday of the month, this musical service is geared for a multi-generational congregation. Led by our rabbis, educator, and young lay leaders, this is a participatory service for people of all ages and levels of Jewish learning. Come ready to sing, play an instrument, listen to stories, and learn something new!

  4. The Dorot Project - The Dorot Project is a new Shabbat morning worship experience, where the music of HaShemesh accompanies a lively service filled with personal reflections from the congregation.

  5. High Holy Day worship - On the evenings of the High Holy Days as well as on Yom Kippur afternoon, these classical, formal worship services use the Reform movement's "Gates of Repentance" prayerbook. Temple Israel's morning, intergenerational services are accompanied by guitar, drums, and piano and use our newly created prayerbooks. A young Children's Service is also offered at this time for those with preschool age children. Early elementary children are welcome at both services.

  6. Holiday and Festival Services - Using liturgy written by the Temple Israel professional staff, family holiday and festival services are conducted on the evenings of the holidays.

The Temple provides free baby-sitting service during every Shabbat evening service (except those that begin at 6 p.m.). Babysitting also is provided for High Holy Days services with advance reservations.
