Temple Israel Women of Reform Judaism-Sisterhood

What is Sisterhood? Sisterhood is the organization of women of Temple Israel who band together in friendship for programs to benefit the Temple and the community, for social activities, and for study. It is the place where women can initiate and develop projects in which they are interested for the benefit of the Congregation and the community. We have a place for every woman in Sisterhood.
  • Temple Israel Sisterhood is a charter member of the Women of Reform Judaism (WRJ), a federation of more than 600 Sisterhoods with 100,000 members in 13 countries. WRJ's global projects include the Jewish Braille Institute, YES (Youth, Educational and Special Projects) Fund, and the World Union for Progressive Judaism. Your Temple Israel Sisterhood membership helps WRJ further these causes.

  • Sisterhood membership also supports Temple Israel. The funds raised through annual dues and support of the Sisterhood Gift Shop help enhance congregational life in many ways, such as providing free childcare to young families attending services at Temple Israel, donations to the Deutsch Early Childhood Center's projects, "Learning is Sweet" treats to Religious School students, and educational programs. Recently, our funds have been used to purchase new flatware for the Temple kitchen and refurbish the silver serving pieces used at Temple functions. Without your support, we will be unable to continue funding these many important projects.

  • Sisterhood also maintains several tribute funds. The Shirley Post Floral Fund provides altar flowers for Shabbat and Holy Day services. The Mothers & Daughters Fund insures the well-being of women in need at Temple Israel through confidential financial assistance. The Religious School Library is updated with new books from donations made to the Sam Rosenkranz Religious School Library Fund. Delicious desserts are served to the congregation in joyful celebration of Shabbat after Friday evening service through sponsorships of the Oneg Shabbat Fund.
