Temple Committees

Adult Education - Works with temple Israel's Director of Education to plan, facilitate and promote adult education programs, including the Scholar-in-Residence program.

Boy Scout Troop 11 - Since 1920, Temple Israel has sponsored a boy scout troop for boys ages 11-18.

Budget

Caring Community - Performing g'milut chasadim (deeds of kindness) such as by providing meals of comfort to people in need: bereavement, sickness, new baby, family crisis, etc.

Chavurah - Small groups of Temple members who are committed to enriching their Jewish lives through study, holiday celebrations, life cycle events and social sharing with other compatible members. Meetings determined by individual group.

Constitution & By-Laws

Deutsch Early Childhood Center Committee - Parents of children currently enrolled at DECC work with the Preschool Director to support and strengthen the preschool and the Camps of Temple Israel, do some fundraising, publish a parent's newsletter, plan parent education programs, teacher appreciation luncheon, social gatherings and more.

Edison Retreat Center - Promotes programs at ERC as well as plan for the upkeep and improvement of the facilities at the ERC.

Fabric Institute - Mission to cultivate stronger bonds and commitments to Jewish life within our homes, the Temple Israel family, and the community. The Institute functions as a think tank, making recommendations and funding programs.

Facilities - Assists in planning and evaluating needs for our buildings and grounds.

Financial Controls - This committee is charged to manage the way in which the congregation handles its finances.

Fund Raising - Helps support Temple operations, facilities, and programming through various fundraising projects.

Heritage Society - Builds the endowment through promoting planned giving, bequests, and similar donations.

House Rules - Establishes and maintains rules for the use of Temple facilities.

HYP - The Hevrah of Young Persons works to create community among Jews in their 20's and 30's in the St. Louis area through educational, spiritual, social justice, apersonal growth, and social activities.

Investment - Manages the portfolio of investments for the Congregation and its Endowment funds.

Israeli House at Temple Israel - Providing opportunities for Hebrew speakers to connect with Israeli Culture. Sponsors holiday parties, singalongs, folk dancing, a Hebrew lending library, coffee houses, game nights and more.

Kahn Foundation - Charitable Distributions of the fund to programs that help the elderly.

Leadership Development - Works with the President of Temple Israel's Board of Trustees to identify and mentor Temple members interested in taking on leadership roles in the congregation.

Membership Committee - Market the Temple and attract new members. Helps to integrate new members into the congregation and retain existing membership.

Music Committee - Works with Cantor in areas related to music program, budget, and upkeep of instruments, musical scores, choir, organist, and Temple acoustics.

New Mt. Sinai Cemetery - Committee members serve on the cemetery board of trustees on behalf of the Temple. New Mt Sinai is Congregation Temple Israel's cemetery.

Public Relations - Publicizes, both internally and externally, programs, services and events that happen at Temple Israel. Serves as a resource to other Temple committees in planning and promoting their programs and events.

Tikkun Olam Committee - Engages in social action activities on many levels including the annual Thanksgiving Dinner, the Give-A-Meal-A-Month program, Habitat for Humanity, Mitzvah Day and more.

Remembrance Book - Responsible each year for the publication of the Book of Remembrance at Yom Kippur.

Retirees - Senior adult groups which meets weekly on Tuesdays at noon for lunch, engaging programs, and sharing of holiday celebrations.

SHIRA - Temple Israel's volunteer choir under the direction of Temple Israel's Cantor.

Shofar Society - Helps to recruit and honor members who voluntarily raise their annual dues to special dues levels.

Silver T.I.gers - Works with the Cantor to plan, facilitate and promote the Day-Trip Program for older adults, and the Living with Loss Program; a support group for those dealing with the death of a loved one.

T.I.kes - Plans, facilitates and promotes program opportunities for families with young children, including Tot Shabbat, pajama parties, Havdalah/pool parties, and trips to local sites of interest.

Ushering - Serve as an usher/ welcome hostonce every couple of months at Shabbat services and Oneg, greeting members and guests, helping to make existing members and visitors feel welcome and comfortable at the Temple.

Women of Reform Judaism - Offers service and support to Temple Israel through a variety of programs.

Worship - The committee works with the rabbis and cantor in developing the worship program of the congregation.

Youth Activities - Facilitate programming for our Templeyouth, including the College Outreach Program, Temple Israel Cotillion, and Temple Israel Youth Groups.

Youth Education Committee - Works with the Director of Eductaion to set school policies, develop and implement programs and oversee the operation of the Temple's Religious and Hebrew Schools.

Youth Groups - TIFTY, our senior youth group for students in high school plans social events, social action projects, and participates in NFTY (The North American Federation of Temple Youth). JYG (Junior Youth Group) is designed to provide opportunities for social interaction for our students grades 6-8.
