Early Childhood Education and Summer Camps

Deutsch Early Childhood Center (DECC)
Deutsch Early Childhood Center of Temple Israel offers a variety of programs for parents and their children from age one through pre-kindergarten. Programs include a two day, three day, or five-day program, a Kid's Morning Out program and a Parent/Child class. In addition, optional programs such as Early Drop-off, Lunch Bunch and Extended Day are available.

DECC is committed to an educational philosophy that stresses kindergarten readiness and enhancement of a child's self-esteem through play, positive discipline, and social interaction. The children begin their Jewish education through interaction with our rabbis and cantor and the celebration of Jewish holidays with songs, prayers and feasts.

The staff at DECC is composed of teachers and specialists with many years of early childhood experience. The teachers follow a Project Construct curriculum which promotes learning and development by engaging children in activities that inspire experimentation and that stimulate them to recognize new problems and invent new solutions. Specialists meet with the children on a weekly or every other week basis with a focus in music, movement and science. The bright and cheerful facility at DECC offers an environment that is stimulating, fun, and safe for the child.

In addition to wonderful classrooms our facility includes a sensational indoor Muscle Room (designed to enhance gross motor skills) and a large, updated, exciting outdoor play area. DECC is accredited by the Missouri Board for Voluntary Accreditation of Early Childhood Education Programs.

Day Camps

The Rabbi Mark and Carol Shook Camp
Named in honor of our Senior Rabbi and his wife, this beautiful facility on the main campus is home to the summer day camps of Temple Israel.

  • Chaverim Program is a six-week camp experience, perfectly geared to the young pre-school age child. Housed in the school building, camp operates rain or shine, making the best use of air-conditioned classrooms and outdoor play areas. Campers enjoy swimming in the in-ground Sam and Ida Silk Pool, lots of camp spirit, sing-a-longs, Friday Shabbat lunches and many camp activities including arts and crafts, movement, music, science and nature, sports and games as well as themed weekly events. The camp is run by an experienced staff of adult teachers and teenage counselors. Children from age one to age five attend camp. Our older campers have the option of staying until 3 p.m.

  • Elonim Program is open to students entering first through fourth grades in the fall. Children may be signed up for three or six weeks of camp. The tree-shaded camp ground includes the in-ground Sam and Ida Silk Pool, hard-surface play areas, multi-purpose recreational field, woods, the Henry and Berdye Blatt Playground and the Laurie Shanfeld Flag Circle. Our campers are met with a warm, nurturing camp environment, where Jewish values become part of camp life. We endeavor to enhance the talents and skills of our campers by offering well rounded, exciting, and enriching programs and activities.
